Blizzard Entertainment has officially launched World of Warcraft: Forever, opening a new chapter in the long running fantasy game on November 4, 2026. The global release invites new players, longtime fans and returning adventurers into a reimagined version of Azeroth, with expanded zones, more than 1,000 new quests, a new playable race and a progression journey that reaches level 60. Rather than replacing the modern or Classic versions of the game, Forever is designed as a permanent experience alongside them. Its central promise is familiar territory with fresh discoveries, giving players another reason to return to the world that has shaped online role playing games for more than two decades.
A New Permanent Home Within the World of Warcraft Universe
World of Warcraft: Forever is not simply another temporary season or limited time game mode. Blizzard describes it as a lasting home within the wider World of Warcraft experience, built around the original continents of Azeroth and a continuing stream of new content. The setting takes place after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before the original Molten Core raid, creating a narrative period that allows familiar locations and characters to be explored from a refreshed perspective.
That positioning matters because World of Warcraft has always balanced nostalgia with change. Some players want the challenge and atmosphere of its earlier adventures, while others expect modern conveniences and new activities. Forever attempts to bring those audiences together without asking them to abandon the versions of the game they already enjoy. Its design places particular importance on exploration, shared experiences and a world that can continue growing after launch.
Four New Areas Expand the Original Continents
One of the biggest attractions is the expansion of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor with new and reimagined zones. Blizzard says the updated journey includes more than 1,000 new quests across the level 1 to 60 experience. The additions are intended to make familiar regions feel less predictable while giving players new reasons to explore beyond established routes.
Among the featured destinations is Mount Hyjal, a location shaped by the aftermath of Archimonde’s defeat. Players can explore Darkwhisper Gorge and take part in the story of a land recovering from a major conflict. The area gives the game an opportunity to revisit important Warcraft history while allowing players to influence what happens next.
Shen’dralas introduces another mystery, situated between Mulgore and Desolace. Its story connects the Shen’dralar, Eldre’Thalas, Dire Maul and the centaur tribes, bringing several familiar elements of Warcraft lore into a new adventure. For players who enjoy uncovering hidden histories and exploring connections between different parts of Azeroth, this region offers a fresh reason to investigate the world carefully.
The Riverglades presents a different atmosphere. Its rivers, grasslands, trade routes and struggling communities create a frontier setting shaped by competing interests and old conflicts. Blizzard says the area contains more than 150 new quests, with much of its content aimed at players progressing through the mid thirties to mid forties. Rather than relying only on combat, its setting offers room for stories involving local communities and regional tensions.
Zephras Isle serves as the starting point for a new playable race and provides a level 1 to 12 experience. Its elemental themes and architecture inspired by Skywall give the island a visual identity that differs from the more familiar starting regions. Together, these additions make the journey toward level 60 more varied and give experienced players new territory to discover.
The Skyborne Become a New Playable Race
Forever introduces the Skyborne, also known as the shen’dorei, as a new playable race. Their story begins on Zephras Isle, where players experience a starting campaign shaped by ancestry, elemental forces and the race’s hidden history. During character creation, players can choose to align their Skyborne character with either the Horde or the Alliance.
The addition is important because a new race offers more than a different appearance. It gives players another identity through which to experience the world, including a dedicated introduction to the game’s setting and its conflicts. For returning fans, the Skyborne provide a new perspective on familiar factions. For newcomers, their starting area offers a guided way into the wider adventure.
Blizzard has also introduced choices designed to help players decide how they want the game to feel. At first login, players select an experience preset before choosing a ruleset. The Classic preset offers a more traditional presentation, with simpler visuals, standard character models and fewer modern interface features enabled by default. This gives players who prefer an older style of play a way to approach the new experience without as much automatic guidance.
Different Rulesets Give Players More Control
Forever organizes its player communities around rulesets rather than relying solely on the traditional realm selection process. The goal is to make it easier for people with similar preferences to find one another while preserving the feeling of an active shared world.
Players can choose among three main rulesets:
- Normal: Designed for adventurers who want to focus on quests and fighting computer controlled enemies, with player versus player combat available at their discretion.
- PvP: Intended for players who want a more competitive environment where encounters with opposing players are a regular possibility.
- Roleplay: Built for players who enjoy character driven immersion, with stricter naming and behavior expectations.
These choices can influence the social experience as much as the difficulty of individual encounters. Someone interested in exploring the story at a relaxed pace may prefer a different environment from a player who enjoys unpredictable battles with other characters. Roleplay communities, meanwhile, can give players more opportunities to build stories and relationships within the setting.
Level 60 Raids Will Begin in December
Reaching level 60 is only the beginning of the endgame experience. Blizzard has outlined a raid schedule that gives players time to develop their characters, collect equipment and prepare for more demanding group challenges. The first major raid releases are scheduled for December 9, 2026, rather than being available on the global launch day.
Three raids are planned for that opening endgame phase. The Barrow Deeps, located beneath Mount Hyjal, is designed for groups of 10 players. Hyjal Summit offers a larger encounter for 20 players near the World Tree Nordrassil. Onyxia’s Lair, located in Dustwallow Marsh, is planned for groups of 40 players.
The different group sizes give players several ways to approach endgame content. Smaller groups can offer a more focused experience, while larger raids require careful coordination, clear communication and an understanding of each character’s role. For many longtime World of Warcraft players, these shared encounters are among the most memorable parts of the game. A difficult boss fight can become a lasting story because success depends on a group learning to work together.
Blizzard has also outlined further content beyond the initial raid release. Its roadmap includes additional raids and dungeons, player versus player updates, new world activities, more quests throughout the level 1 to 60 journey, a Hardcore ruleset and a revamped version of an iconic raid. The company has presented Forever as an ongoing project that will continue to develop with community feedback.
How to Access World of Warcraft: Forever
Access to World of Warcraft: Forever is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time. Players do not need to purchase a separate full game to enter the new experience if they already have eligible access. Blizzard has also offered optional upgrade editions through the Battle.net Shop for people interested in additional benefits.
The Skyborne Heroic Pack includes access to the new race and its Zephras Isle starting experience, along with cosmetic items and other extras. The Skyborne Epic Pack adds beta access and 30 days of game time, among further benefits. A limited time Warcraft Forever Collection has also been offered as another upgrade option. Players should check the current Battle.net store details for availability, regional pricing and the conditions attached to each edition.
The worldwide launch time was set for 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on November 4. Because of regional time differences, players in parts of Europe and Asia received access during the early hours of November 5 local time. This staggered calendar date reflects one coordinated global release rather than separate regional launches.
Blizzard’s official World of Warcraft: Forever launch announcement provides the detailed introduction to the new zones, race and player choices. Its roadmap for future updates outlines how the experience is expected to grow after launch.
A Fresh Journey for New and Returning Players
The launch of World of Warcraft: Forever gives Blizzard an opportunity to bring different generations of players into the same evolving world. Longtime fans can revisit the landscapes and stories that made Azeroth familiar, while new players receive expanded starting options, additional quests and a clearer choice about the kind of community they want to join.
Its success will depend on more than the size of the launch day audience. New content must remain rewarding after the first weeks, group activities need healthy communities, and future updates must give players meaningful reasons to return. The December raid release and the longer content roadmap will be important tests of Blizzard’s commitment to keeping the experience active.
For now, Forever offers a substantial new route through the World of Warcraft universe. With expanded regions, the Skyborne race, flexible player rulesets and a long term plan for endgame content, Blizzard is giving Azeroth another opportunity to grow. The familiar world remains at the heart of the experience, but its newest chapter invites players to discover places, stories and challenges they have not encountered before.
