KATSEYE’s Sophia Announces Temporary Hiatus Ahead of Global Release of WILD

Sophia Laforteza, a member of the global girl group KATSEYE, is stepping away from upcoming promotional activities to focus on her mental health and well being. The announcement arrives just days before the group is scheduled to release its highly anticipated third EP, WILD, placing a deeply personal decision alongside one of the most important moments in the group’s young career.

Sophia asks for time to recover

HYBE and Geffen Records announced on August 7 that Sophia would be temporarily unable to participate in KATSEYE’s professional activities. In a statement shared with fans through Weverse, the agency said the singer had been receiving extensive support and had consulted medical professionals before taking time away.

The agency said Sophia had been advised to dedicate herself to extended rest and ongoing care. Her condition is expected to be reassessed in September, when the company plans to provide another update.

“While Sophia herself is eager to perform alongside her members, the health, safety and long term well being of our artists will always remain our highest priority,” the statement said.

The wording offered no specific diagnosis, and neither the group nor its representatives provided additional medical details. That restraint matters. Mental health decisions belong first to the person receiving care, not to an audience seeking a complete explanation.

A difficult decision before a major release

Sophia also addressed fans directly, describing the decision as heartbreaking because it means missing important moments with her members and supporters. She said, however, that she is learning that health must come first and that caring for her mind and body is necessary if she hopes to continue doing the work she loves for many years.

For an artist whose career depends on demanding rehearsals, international travel, public appearances and constant online visibility, a break can require considerable courage. Performers are often expected to remain energetic even when they are exhausted, while fans may see only the polished result of a schedule that leaves little room for recovery.

Sophia’s message presents rest not as a rejection of her career, but as part of protecting it. She has told fans that she intends to work toward healing and hopes to return when she is ready.

KATSEYE prepares to release WILD

KATSEYE is scheduled to release WILD on August 14 through HYBE and Geffen Records. The project is the group’s third EP and follows Beautiful Chaos, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, according to Billboard.

The new release includes “Animal,” a single co written by Ed Sheeran, and arrives during an especially busy period for the group. KATSEYE is also connected to the worldwide theatrical release of its documentary, KATSEYE: Wild Hearts, which is scheduled for limited screenings beginning August 12.

The timing means the remaining members will likely carry out release activities while Sophia concentrates on recovery away from the spotlight. The group has not announced that the EP release will be postponed, and current information indicates that WILD remains scheduled for its August 14 release.

Fans respond with support

KATSEYE’s supporters, known as EYEKONS, had already noticed Sophia’s absence from recent appearances. She missed the group’s performance at the Hinterland Music Festival in Iowa and was not present at the premiere of KATSEYE: Wild Hearts. At the documentary event, her members sent her messages of affection and said she was unwell.

The formal announcement clarified that her absence was part of a broader decision to prioritize her health. Fans have since shared messages encouraging Sophia to take the time she needs rather than feel pressure to return on a fixed timetable.

That response reflects a wider change in how audiences discuss the mental health of performers. Support can be meaningful when it gives an artist room to recover, respects privacy and avoids demanding updates about symptoms or treatment.

The group faces another period of change

Sophia is the second KATSEYE member to take a temporary break from group activities this year. Manon Bannerman previously stepped away, also amid concerns related to mental health. The circumstances surrounding each member are personal, and it would be inappropriate to treat their experiences as identical.

Still, the two announcements highlight the intensity of the group’s rapid rise. KATSEYE was formed through the audition program Dream Academy, a collaboration between HYBE and Geffen Records. Since debuting, the multinational act has moved quickly through recording sessions, music videos, festivals, film projects and international promotion.

That pace can create extraordinary opportunities, but it can also place significant pressure on young artists. A healthy working environment requires more than public statements. It also depends on realistic schedules, access to qualified care, private recovery time and a company culture that treats rest as necessary rather than optional.

What happens next

For now, Sophia’s role in KATSEYE’s upcoming promotional schedule is paused. The group is expected to continue with the release of WILD, while Sophia receives support and focuses on her recovery.

Fans should look for future updates from KATSEYE or its official representatives rather than relying on speculation. The official KATSEYE community on Weverse remains one of the group’s primary channels for announcements.

Sophia’s decision comes at a moment when the group is preparing to reach an even larger worldwide audience. Yet the central message of the announcement is not about schedules, chart positions or promotional plans. It is that a person’s health must remain more important than a release date, a performance or the expectations surrounding a rising pop group.

As KATSEYE moves forward with WILD, Sophia’s absence will be felt by her members and fans. The most supportive response, however, may be the simplest one: allowing her the time, care and privacy needed to return only when doing so is right for her.
